Yellow jackets are actually related to hornets and can be a bad problem to have. Like red wasps, they like to build their nests in attics, on eaves, and in the bushes around homes.

If their nest is easy to get to, most homeowners can spray them with a good wasp and hornet killer available from the hardware store and solve the problem, but if they are going in and out of a hole, and you can't see the nest, you should probably have a pro handle them, cause there is no way to tell just how big that nest might be.
